Go back to The 1950s

Leonard Bernstein (1918 - 1990)
The 1950s

We are not living in experimental times.... We are not producing
real tragedy. On the other hand we are not producing real
satire either. The caution prevents it, all the fears prevent it,
and we are left, at the moment, with an art that is rather
whiling away the time until the world gets better or blows up.

(1953)
